Intro: part of SERMON ON THE MOUNT. A Christian’s private life and public life. Two problems: greed and anxiety.
I. Principle #1: The question of our treasure Matthew 6:19-21. Do not be a covetous (Marked by extreme desire to acquire or possess) person. Lay up treasure in Heaven 1 Timothy 6:17.
II. Principle #2: The question of our vision Matthew 6:22-23. Everything your body does your eye see Judges 21:25. Contentment 1 Timothy 6:6. A happy family life Psalm 128:2.
III. Principle #3: The question of our service Matthew 6:24. Can I say: Christ is Lord over my life? Do I have real treasure that I can never loose?
IV. Principle #4: The question of our ambition Matthew 6:25-34. Why we worry Matthew 6:25. World thinkers- Eat, drink and be merry. Why we don’t have to worry Matthew 6:26. Intro: Paul was a man of tremendous courage because he was a man of tremendous conviction. A strong belief is not a wise conviction if not based on God’s Word.
I. They will have convictions. Paul’s conviction was to go to Jerusalem and preach the Word of God Acts 19:21. David had convictions, 1 Samuel 17:45-47.
II. They will spurn all diversions. A prophet named Agabus came over to Paul Acts 21:10-11. Romans 15:25-27 is the plan and Paul holds fast to his convictions Acts 20:22.
III. They will sacrifice at any cost Acts 21:11-15. Paul did not leave from Jerusalem until The Lord told him Acts 22:18. Paul is told to ’Take Courage’- Acts 23:11.
Personal: What convictions will I live and die by? Sometimes you can have a conviction and others will say ’no’. Follow God! The Will of God is most important.

THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST
1 Corinthians 15:1-58
Notes on the sermon (March 23, 2008)
given by Pastor Carl Broggi
If you missed this message you may be able

Intro: The death, burial and resurrection of Christ has effected everyone that’s ever lived, lives, and will live.
I. The Resurrection is An Irrefutable Fact of History.
A. There is the personal proof. 1 Corinthians 15:1-2
B. There is Biblical proof. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
C. There is visible proof. 1 Corinthians 15:5-6 and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. (fallen asleep: the body in death) 1 Corinthians 15:7-11
II. The Resurrection is An Indispensable Fact of Theology.
A. If Christ is not raised then preaching is profitless. 1 Corinthians 15:12-14
B. If Christ is not raised then faith is foolish. 1 Corinthians 15:14 and Romans 1:4
C. If Christ is not raised then the disciples are deceivers. 1 Corinthians 15:15 and Acts 4:33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all.
D. If Christ is not raised then sin is sovereign. 1 Corinthians 15:17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Romans 4:25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
E. If there is no resurrection, then death has dominion. 1 Corinthians 15:18-19
III. The Resurrection is An Implicating Fact of practice.
A. The resurrection implicates your evangelism. 1 Corinthians 15:20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
B. The resurrection implicates your mortality. 1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. Acts 24:15 And I have the same hope in God as these men, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. 1 Corinthians 15:23-31
C. The resurrection implicates your sanctification. 1 Corinthians 15:32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die." 1 Corinthians 15:33-34 Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character." Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God-I say this to your shame.
D. The resurrection implicates your burial. 1 Corinthians 15:35 But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" 1 Corinthians 15:36-58
Personal:
There is a part in me that never dies - Christ in me.
If I have a natural body, I also have a spiritual body. 1 Corinthians 15:44
I’m sown in sin but will be raised in glory and victory. 1 Corinthians 15:54

An Old Testament Calvary
Psalm 22:1-31
Notes on the sermon (March 16, 2008)
given by Pastor Carl Broggi

Intro: A picture of the crucifixion given about a thousand years before He (Jesus) left Heaven. In some ways a more graphic account of the crucifixion than the Gospels - a line by line description of the very thoughts that ran through Jesus’s mind.
Psalm 22:1-21
1. The terrible ROARING of Calvary. Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
1 Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
A. Jesus suffered when He was abandoned by God. Psalm 22:2-5 and Hebrews 10:5-7 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. Then I said, ’Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—I have come to do your will, O God.’ " (If He did this to Jesus we will suffer the same if we don’t accept His forgiveness of sin).
B. Jesus suffered when He was abhorred-detested, rejected by men. Psalm 22:6-12 and Matthew 27:39-43 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, "You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!" In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. "He saved others," they said, "but he can’t save himself! He’s the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ’I am the Son of God.’ "
C. Jesus suffered when He was abused by Satan. Psalm 22:19 and Luke 22:53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns."
Colossians 2:15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Matthew 26:56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Psalm 22:22-31
2. The tremendous RESULTS of Calvary. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
A. Jesus serves as Prophet to proclaim The Father. Matthew 18:20 For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. Hebrews 11-12 He says,"I will declare your name to my brothers;in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises.
B. Jesus serves as Priest to intercede for His people. Psalm 22:24
C. Jesus serves as King to rule the universe. Psalm 22:25-31 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfill my vows. The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him—may your hearts live forever! All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations. All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—those who cannot keep themselves alive. Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn—for he has done it.
Revelation 7:9-10 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." Revelation 11:15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."
Personal: Psalm 22:31 We declare it every time we share the Gospel.

Intro: Have you ever wondered why we do what we do when we come to CHURCH? Is it user friendly or GOD friendly?
1. The Lord’s People. Acts 20:4 The first century church was very diverse. Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
2. The Lord’s Work. Malachi 3:10 and 1 Corinthians 16:1-3 Now about the collection for God’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem.
3. The Lord’s Day. Genesis 2:3 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Exodus 31:16,17 and Ezekiel 20:12 Also I gave them my Sabbaths as a sign between us, so they would know that I the LORD made them holy.
4. The Lord’s Table. Acts 20:7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 1 Corinthians 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
5. The Lord’s Word. Because they (slaves) worked, they met in the evening. Acts 20:11 Then he (Paul) went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. They had a heart to hear the Word of God. Mark 4:9 Then Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Personal:
*Set my schedule around learning God’s Word and fellowshipping.
*I will not be offended by God’s Words.
