Intro: The first Christmas sermon is found in Genesis. Something awful happened to make man fall; something wonderful happened to bring him back. This shows the perfect couple in the perfect environment.
I. The problem that made Christmas a necessity. Summary of schemes of the Devil, see Revelation 20:2.
- Dialog with Satan (see Genesis 3:1-3). Eve should’ve just turned away.
- Doubt- Satan puts a question mark; see Genesis 3:1 and Genesis 3:4.
- Denial; see Genesis 3:4. God is too good not to punish sin.
- Delusion- Satan put focus on Eve; see Genesis 3:5. Satan always promises freedom.
- Desire; see Genesis 3:6. Eve is left to own desires; see 1 John 2:16.
- Decision; see Genesis 3:6.
- Death; see James 1:15.
- Dissemination; see Genesis 3:6-8. Probing questions God asked- see Genesis 3:9-13.
II. The promise that made Christmas a reality; see Genesis 3:15.
- Spiritual battle. Genesis 3:15 is the first prophecy of Christmas.
- Supernatural birth; see Isaiah 7:14.
- Saving bruise; see Colossians 2:15 and Romans 16:20.
Personal Application:
1. Beware of Satan’s schemes; see 2 Corinthians 11:3.
2. Our tendency is to blame/always to pass the buck; see 2 Timothy 4:3.
3. God drove them out so that Satan couldn’t tempt them to eat again; see Genesis 3:24.
4. We are born spiritually separated from God.
5. Where are you?
6. God invites you to be saved!
