Intro: The best news ever told. Most important news in human history. ‘He is not here. He has risen’ see Matthew 28:6. His death, burial, and resurrection will effect the destiny of us all! Gospel: power of God for salvation. The Gospel challenges the intellect, challenges emotions and challenges the will.
I. The Investigation of Peter and John, see John 20:2-10.
A. Their receipt of the news, see John 20:1-4.
B. Their reaction to the news, see John 20:5-8.
II. The Investigation of Mary Magdalene, see Luke 8:2.
A. Mary’s distress, see John 20:1 and John 20:11-13. Mary showed her grief, see John 20:14-15.
B. Mary’s delight, see John 20:16-18.
III. The Investigation of Doubting Thomas.
A. Thomas’ Doubts as they are revealed, see John 20:24-25. Thomas would not believe the reports even of those of whom he knew.
B. Thomas’ Doubts as they are resolved, see John 20:26-28.
Personal Application: You have to ask yourself-
1. What will I do with the evidence of the empty tomb? The empty tomb is God’s receipt, God has paid in full your debt on Calvary!
2. What are the implications of my decision? God made a provision for everyone, see Acts 24:15. We are to have joy and compassion, see 2 Timothy 4:1-2.
3. What am I gonna do about it today? What will you do: go away untouched or respond?
Notes:
*Do you worship Jesus Christ? See Revelation 5:1-14.
*Faith without sight, see John 20:29 and 2 Corinthians 5:7.
