Romans 13:1-7

Intro:
What are our duties? What are our rights? There is always tension between The Authority of God and man: Romans 13:1. We are to obey laws of the land, pay tax, etc. Daniel 2:37-38, Daniel 2:20-21, Romans 9:17 and John 19:9-11.
I. God supports law & order- a divinely ordained institution, Romans 13:2. Silence the critics by doing what is right, 1 Peter 2:13-15. Heed what God says, Exodus 1:17. Obey God rather than men, Acts 4:19-21 and Acts 5:27-29.
II. Civil disobedience brings condemnation, Romans 13:2-3. Minister of God, avenger who brings wrath (Romans 13:4); sword (Romans 8:35). Image of God, Genesis 9:6. Crime and punishment Exodus 21:12 and Ecclesiastes 8:11. It is hypocritical to love without hating, hate sin but love the sinner, Romans 12:19.
III. Obeying the Government is the right thing to do, Romans 13:5. We are to pay for our government, Romans 13:6-7 and Matthew 22:16-21.
We are to respect our government, 1 Timothy 2:1-3 and 1 Peter 2:17.
Personal:
Pray for our government and all who are in authority, Jeremiah 29:7.
God desires all men to be saved, 1 Timothy 2:4.
