Far From Home

I have been reading Joe Stowell’s book "Far From Home." Joe was my pastor many years ago when I was right out of the university and we moved to Kokomo, IN to work for GM. He has a lot of talent in many things and went on to become president of Moody Bible Institute. I think maybe his greatest gift is in writing. He is one of those writers that makes me feel like, yes, I felt that way too but I just did not know how to say it so well. In "Far From Home" he takes us back to the garden. We were created for intimate fellowship with God, to walk with Him in that beautiful place. That was home! We have gone far from home. Sometimes we feel like Magellan in a little wooden boat on the other side of the world and we long for home. Sin drove us out of the garden and out of that close fellowship with God but somewhere deep in our soul, we long to go back. That desire is in each of us whether we recognize it or not and I think that drive explains some things about how we live and behave. Joe talks about this in his book and right now it is hard to put down. Peggy and I plan to go to a seminar at The Cove in October where we will see Joe and sit under his teaching again.
