Feeling a lack of faith in your Christian life?

Many believers feel that they have a lack of faith. We could define faith as a blind commitment to what God is, does, and says. It is staking our life on the reality of His trustworthiness. But unless faith becomes operative in our own life, it is only a word. The most well know definition of faith (Hebrews 11:1) is a functional one; it does not tell us what faith actually is, but what it will do for us.

The Gospel is a way of faith. The Christian life is a walk of faith. Faith pleases God and He rewards it. (Hebrews 11:6)

If you are a believer but feel you need to increase your faith consider these steps. If you are not a believer, start by clicking here (if you have a broadband connection) to see the video “How to Make Jesus Your Friend” by Dr. Carl Broggi.

  1. Confess your lack of faith through prayer to God as sin. (Romans 14:23, Hebrews 3:12)

  2. Go to the source book on faith, the Bible. There are approximately 500 references to faith, belief, etc., in the New Testament alone. Use the “What the Bible says about…” link under TOOLS on the right side of our website. Type in faith and press enter. I suggest you limit yourself to the New Testament references.

  3. Exercise faith through your prayer life. There are references relating faith to prayer. (Matthew 17:20, James 5:15) Faith will grow as victories in prayer are experienced.

  4. Begin to use what you learn about faith, putting it to the test in your life and experiences. For example: in Proverbs 3:5-6, God promises His guidance if we meet certain conditions. If you desire the leading of the Lord for some decision you need to make or action you need to take, then determine what God’s conditions are in the reference given and meet them, in order to experience the promised guidance.

  5. Begin to challenge faith by daring to believe God more and more and act on that belief. True faith is dynamic; it results in action! The great heroes of faith (Hebrews 11) were on the move for God! Get involved in Christian service. (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Other verses to help you are Romans 5:1, 1 Peter 1:6-9, Matthew 17:20, Mark 11:22.
