The Rich And The Poor, James 1:9-11

The purpose in these verses (James 1:9-11) is to focus the believers attention on the eternal outcome of a life of faith and to stress how little material possessions matter. James reminds us of an obvious truth, yet one which Christians are always overlooking. The wise Christian recognizes the only true values are found in eternity, where everything lasts forever. Who would suggest that the crown of life can be compared with material things?

When we consider the riches God has poured out on us as Christians and our position with God through the grace of Jesus, we need nothing else.

  1. An heir of God (James 2:5)
  2. Created a little lower than angels (Psalm 8:4-5)
  3. Elevated over angels in the life to come (1 Cor. 6:3)
  4. His ambassadors on earth (2 Cor. 5:20)
  5. Sons of the King (Gal. 4:5-7)

  1. Mrs. Vonnie Farrar Says:

My 34 year old mobile home is in bad shape, my almost 10 year old car has well over 150,000 miles on it and my finances are shot! My husband lives in his camper on our property and helps me only when it helps him (still I will always love him and pray for his salvation).

But I have 5 wonderful children (including son- and daughter-in-law) and 9 precious grandchildren who are doing wonderfully in Christ. My 84 year old Mother lives and she soon will be celebrating her 2nd anniversary to my wonderful stepdad. These are gifts my Lord has granted me in this life.

Most of all, I have Jesus, my Savior and King, Friend and Lord. I am the richest woman in this world and in the hereafter. Heaven to me is falling on my knees before my sweet Jesus, then seeing in His eyes His pure and precious love for me.
I will gladly live in poverty and use my income, if God will provide the means for me, to serve Him and to witness to others about His matchless Treasures.

My wealth lies in Christ Jesus. I am content in Him.

Hope to visit Community Bible Church in Beaufort tomorrow, July 15, with my son who has been very ill. He has been saved but has not yet committed his life to Christ.
Please pray for him. Knowing Christ is NOT serving Christ. Serving Christ is total committment to Him and a deep need to lead others to Him. It breaks my heart to see others fighting this world alone when Christ has already borne their burdens. I am deeply saddened when a death occurs and eternity for that poor soul is eternity in the blackest outer darkness with no hope EVER of finding the Light he/she rejected here on earth. I cry for the years he/she could have served Christ and accumulated wealth and riches that will follow, in fact precede, him or her when entering into eternity with Jesus, our eternal Light. Please pray unceasingly for my son.

    Your sister in Christ Jesus,
    Vonnie Farrar
